Local Attractions
Angling
Youghal boasts an excellent variety of angling ranging from game to
coarse to deep sea. The Blackwater river is one of the most famous
salmon rivers in Europe and enters the sea at Youghal Bay. Deep sea
fishing including Conger to 41 lbs in weight and Blue Shark up to 135
lbs. Carleton Resort will be happy to arrange an angling trip including
organisation of rods, gillies and boat hire.
Waterford Crystal
One of the most popular visitor centres in Ireland. A unique
opportunity to see the process of making the crystal, enjoy a guided
tour and savour the experience of shopping on site.
Jameson Distillery
Trace the history of the Uisce Beatha, the Irish whiskey brewed in
Midleton since 1825. Visitors can see the largest pot still in the
world. All visits culminate with an a whiskey tasting session in the
bar.
Horse Riding and Pony Trekking
Pony trekking and horse riding are available at Ballymakeigh Equestrian
Centre, just a short drive away. Pony camps are available for children
in July.
Blue Flag Beaches
Carleton Wharf has a small sandy beach on its doorstep and very close
by there is a wonderful six mile stretch of beautiful blue flag sandy
beaches.
Fota Wildlife Park
Come face to face with over 90 species of exotic wildlife - an absolute
must for all the family. The park is set on 70 acres of open
countryside with many of the species roaming freely around the park.
Cross Country Safari
Take an all terrain vehicle and drive through a specially designed
cross country course which runs through a working livestock farm.

Blarney Castle
This historic castle is most famous for its Stone, which has the traditional power of conferring eloquence on all who kiss it.
Perks Bowling
Situated near Carleton Resort, a fantastic bowling facility
guaranteeing fun for all the family. Perks also offer funfair
amusements, great for the not so sunny days.
Ballymaloe Country House & Cookery School
Ballymaloe is a large country house on a 400 acre farm in east Cork.
Family run, on the family farm. Award winning restaurant and cafe. For
a very special evening Ballymaloe is a must. Ballymaloe House is only a
20 minute drive from Carleton Village.
Shanagarry Pottery
The Stephen Pierce run world renowned Shanagarry Pottery has built an
international reputation. You can visit the sudios of Stephen's which
are just a 20 minute drive from Carleton Village.
Cobh
The historic town of Cobh is within 30 minutes drive from Youghal. A
premier port of call for Trans-Atlantic liners, it became associated
with the stream of emigrants leaving Ireland to seek their fortunes in
the New World. Best known for the final port of call for the Titanic.
The gothic style 19th century St Coleman's Cathedral towers over the
town.
